Abstract

In this study, effect of drilling mud additives and drilled formations on the metals concentration in well No. 449 while drilling oil field were investigated. Sampling of mud additives, wastes (mud + cutting) of drilled formations and soils around drilling location were performed. After preparation of samples, for determination of metal concentrations used of ICP-MS, ICP-OES methods.
The results show that Barite is source of Cu, Zn, Ag; Bentonite is source of Ni, V, Zn; Hematite is source of Zn, V, Ni, Cr; heavy water-based mud is source for Cu, Ag; shale is source of Cr, Zn, V, bitumen shales is source for Cd, Cr, Zn, V, limestone is source of Ba in Pabdeh formation; sandstone is source of Cr, gray marl is source of Cr, Cu, V and limestone is source for Sr in Asmari formation; limy gray marl and limestone bearing shale, Gurpi formation are source of Cu, limestone in Ilam formation is source for Cu , Ag, limestone in Sarvak formation is source of Ba. This research present that different lithology also increases the concentration of metals in drilling wastes. Based on environmental assessment, drilling wastes of No.449 well are moderately to strongly polluted for Cu, Ag; moderately polluted for Cd; Sr, Ba unpolluted to moderately polluted for Sr, Baand unpolluted for the other studied metals.
