Studying of Changing Organic Carbon Content in Kazhdomi Formation in one of the Abadan Plain Oilfeild by Geochemical and Petrophysical Data

Abstract

The studied oilfield is one of the world's developing giant oil field. The Sarvak, lower Kazhdomi, Gadvan, Fahliyn and Ilam formations are considered as reservoir rocks in this oil field. In this study the Kazhdomi Formation, have been evaluated with both Rock Eval 6 instrument as well as Sonic and Gamma Ray logs. Sedimentary environment from north to south of oil field changes to an anoxic and progressive environment with high production as well preservation of organic matters. At the same time the Gamma ray intensity increases against the limestone layers. Geochemical and petrophysical data reveal a richer TOC zone on top of the Kazhdomi Formation. This zone losses its thickness towards north. Also, TOC vs. S1+S2 reveals that, Kazhdomi Formation is in extensive range from lean to excellent with more prolific in the southern part. It is therefore obvious that Kazhdomi Formation with a rich organic matter in its upper part, particularly in the southern part can act as a possible source rock for Sarvak reservoir in studied oilfield.
