Abstract
Investigating lithological changes and geological effects in oil reservoirs plays an important role in evaluating and measuring the qualitative potential of reservoir zones. In the current study, these tools were used in the investigation of the Asmari reservoir in the Kupal oil field. Asmari Formation mainly has two parts carbonate and debris (sandstone), and consisted of 11 facies in view of lithology. The abundance of lithofacies in middle and upper Asmari confirms the small scale changes of the relative sea level in the middle of Chattian (the latest division of Oligocene) and due to the Savian orogenic phase.
Fractures, stylolite (stratigraphy and tectonic), conductive and non-conductive veins, dissolution vugs, anhydrite nodules, erosion surface, breakout and induced fractures have also been identified. Fracture density is controlled by lithological changes, structural elements, and drilling well position. The change in the directions of the open fractures showed that from the west to the east, the upper and lower half of the Asmari Formation behave differently to dominant stresses due to lithological parameters, the presence of Gachsaran evaporite layers above and Pabdeh shale below, the presence of limited thrusts, and the location of the drilling well. Changes in the lithology of the reservoir, the presence of evaporite layers of Gachsaran above and Pabdeh shale below, the activities of two limiting thrusts and the position of the drilling well are involved in creating the existing pattern. The direction of induced and falling fractures is consistent with the Zagros trend.
