Abstract
The copper, lead, and zinc mining area of Saryazd is located in the middle part of the Urumieh-Dokhtar magmatic arc, 35 km southeast of Yazd. The exposed rocks in the area include Eocene volcanic rocks (consisting of tuff and lava), Quaternary deposits, and small outcrops of subvolcanic Oligo-Miocene intrusive masses with a combination of granodiorite, diorite, and monzodiorite. Copper, lead, and zinc mineralization occurs in areas A and B, about 4 km apart. Mineralization in the form of vein-veinlet and breccia consists of hydrothermal metallic minerals of chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite, pyrite, bornite, covellite, and tetrahedrite-tennantite along with quartz and minor calcite. Microthermometric studies on fluid inclusions in quartz and sphalerite crystals indicate a homogenization temperature of ore-forming fluids in the range of 130 to 298 °C and a salinity of 4.8 to 18.9 wt% NaCl equivalent. According to the evidence of structure, texture, and fluid inclusions, the essential factors of mineral deposition are boiling, cooling, and mixing magmatic and meteoric water in the final stage. Based on the study of geological features, mineralization, and fluid inclusions in the Saryazd deposit, the deposit is most similar to an intermediate-sulfidation epithermal system.
