Abstract

In this research, groundwater pollution in the downstream areas of Kaveh Soda Factory in Maragheh due to the leakage of factory effluents has been investigated, and a solution to reduce this pollution has been proposed. Initially, by conducting detailed hydrological and hydrogeological studies, as well as geological and sedimentological analyses of the area, an artificial recharge method using permeable ponds has been introduced. Using this method excess rainfalls will recharge to dilute the groundwater and decrease the salinity. The project location was chosen based on criteria such as proximity to water sources, placement in the contaminated area, land ownership, and land use. The test results indicate that by injecting water from a nearby river at a rate of 960,000 cubic meters into the recharge ponds, the salinity of groundwater improves. This artificial recharge method not only contributes to the enhancement of groundwater quality but also aids in preserving water resources. Ultimately, an area measuring 0.58 square kilometers in the downstream vicinity of the Kaveh Soda Factory was selected for the implementation of the recharge operation
