Abstract

The purpose of this study is to combine the data obtained from the images and field works with geomorphological indices to constrain the active tectonics induced by active faulting and active folding in the Kabir Kuh anticline of the Zagros fold-thrust belt. For this purpose, an investigation of geomorphic indices was carried out, and then geomorphologic and geological evidence of active folding were analyzed. By gathering the results of geomorphic indices and that of active folding from the southeastern parts of the Kabir Kuh anticline and comparing them with previous studies, it is possible to define the extent of tectonic activity of the anticline as an active fold. That is a large number of drainage basins in the southeast nose of the anticline, the wind gap and the Seymareh Landslide have high tectonic activity and other areas have moderate tectonic activity. Geomorphic evidence indicates that active folding could be a cause for changing the path of the Karkheh River. That is at once the river followed through the wind gap and then deviated to flow in the current path of the Karkheh River and turned the southeastern nose of the Kabir Kuh anticline. Since the Kabir Kuh anticline is related to the Mountain Front fault, the activity of the fold is considered an indication of the activity of the fault.
