Abstract

In order toevaluate the vulnerability of the Naal-e-Asbi karst aquifer of SE Izeh city, the COP method was used.  This method uses different layers such as water level (O factor), concentration of flow (C factor) and precipitation (P factor) which describe the vulnerability of the aquifer. The effect of some of the karst parameters such as swallow holes (C factor) and related landform in their catchment area may be compensated by the O layer. P factor determines the spatial and temporal variability of precipitation which my act as means of transportation of contaminations. Comparisons of COP result with that of nitrate concentrations in Naal-e-Asbi karst aquifer exhibits the advantages of the COP method in the assessment of vulnerability of karstic groundwater. The overall result indicate that only small patches in nose of syncline and upper reaches in high lands are considered as low to moderate contaminated area whereas the rest of Naal-e-Asbi karst aquifer is experiencing high to very high pollutions.
