Abstract

In this study, the groundwater potential of Imam Hassan limestone in Chvar region, Ilam has been investigated by using resistivity tomography. To achieve this purpose, five geoelectric profiles with a length of 500 meters and the electrode interval of 20 m using successive dipole – dipole array were surveyed. After evaluating accuracy of the geoelectric data using sensitivity profiles of model blocks and then providing smooth models, the resistivity pseudo-sections have been plotted. This has been done by employing non-linear optimization technique and least squares inversion. Finally, geological cross sections were depicted by using resistivity pseudo-sections.The evaluation of these sections shows that ground water storage capacity in Emam-Hassan limestone is low due to low solubility and thickness, high compaction and lack of frequent fractures. In contrast, the interpretation of the control profile near Ilam formation suggests likely suitable potentials for groundwater in this area.
