Integrating Geophysics and Exploration Drilling Data in the Central Area of the Shekasteh Sabz, Northwest of Birjand

Abstract

The Shekaste Sabz area is located in eastern Iran, about 96 km northwest of Birjand. The area comprises outcrops of Paleocene to Eocene volcanics with andesitic composition, which was intruded by intermediate subvolcanic bodies. Mineralization is occured as vein and veinlet. Due to the ancient mining and vein mineralization, geochemical sampling and magnetic data were provided in the area.  The range of variation for elements in the lithogeochemistry samples are as follows: Cu from 28 to 2400 ppm, Zn from 14 to 665 ppm, Pb from 2 to 394 ppm. Profiles of total magnetic intensity and map of RTP Grey Scale Sunshade delineated two linear structures (faults) in the study area. To identify the extend depth of the veins, one IP/RS profile was taken in the lowest magnetic intensity area. Integrating the drilling and geophysical data result revealed that boreholes with the highest geochemical anomalies and mineralization is correlated with high magnetic lithic tuffs as a source. So magnetic abnormally is a clue for the mineralized host rock (lithic tuff).
