Stabilization Of Collapsible Soil Using Grouting Technology (Case study Semnan Railway)

Abstract

Iran is among the countries with collapsible soils, and if attention not to paid to this phenomenon, structures, road and rail-ways on this regions due saturation of soils, could be suffered serious damages. Along the Semnan-Damghan rail-way, due to the soil fractures caused by the collapsible soils and resultant effects, injection of in-situe soil, may effectively improve the problem. In this research, due to the high presence of clay in soil, attention was paid to the lime. Field and laboratory studies, indicate that because of the cementation, between soil particles of clay, lime injection reduced the potential of collapsilility of soil in a saturated condition, and increased the bearing capacity of soil, compared to other injectable materials, and therefore is suggested as a suitable solution.
