Abstract

Assessment of reservoir structure is necessary in oil production optimization and field development. Nowadays, application of the reservoir software and Image logs plays the central role in resolving this problem. The purpose of this work research is systematically studding the Asmari fractured reservoir in one of the Iranian southwestern oilfields using OBMI-UBI image logs and investigation of the effects of these fractures on the porosity and permeability of the reservoir using the Velocity-Deviation Log. The results indicate that Asmari reservoir production is a function of a combination of fractures and rock matrix. Fractures and porous zones have had effective impact on the reservoir properties. There are two general patterns of tectonic fractures associated with longitudinal and diagonal wrinkling as well as all tectonic fractures type related to faulting found in this reservoir. Longitudinal patterns are dominating and often form open fractures. They are characterized by N45-90W and mainly observed in the upper Asmari zones, which are associated with the folding of the fault.
